Spiderman 3 Review

Well was the wait and all the hype worth it, I think so. With any sequel you have a certain expectation of what the movie will be like in your head and sometimes it just doesn’t meet that expectation once you’ve left the cinema.

For any comic book fan (me included) I think that we have a higher expectation of what the movie should be like because we have already lived it in our heads. That being said I think that Sam Raimi did a pretty good job to ‘finalise’ his trilogy although in some aspects it felt a little rushed.

Three great Spiderman villains in a 2.5 hour movie I feel was just a little too much. They just didn’t get enough screen time to flesh out all the characters.

The addition of Gwen Stacy’s character wasn’t really needed other than to provide some friction with the Peter/Mary Jane relationship. Her character would have been better served in the first film to follow the Spiderman continuity more closely.

The “New Goblin” I thought was great, the costume was different and Harry’s “Sky Stick” snowboard was fantastic.

Flint Marko (Sandman) was fantastic, special effects have come along way and definitely made the sandman look much more menacing than I thought possible. Definitely fit the look of the character to a tee.

And then there is the most anticipated Spiderman character Venom. I think that the special effects did a great job of interpreting him onto the big screen. Topher Grace played the character well and incorporated his psychotic hatred for Spiderman well. I think that Venom definitely needed a lot more screen time to fully make the addition of the character in the film worthwhile.

Now the only problem I really had was the Saturday Night Fever walk scene, I mean seriously did we really need Peter Parker to look like a doofus. I don’t think it was called for and certainly didn’t need to go on as long as it did, all it did was annoy me.

Contrary to some of the gripes above I did enjoy the movie for what it was, a special effects bonanza. Will there be a fourth instalment, I hope so especially considering the box office takings so far.
